History of the Fairmont-Hahntown Volunteer Fire Company No. 4
Beginnings
In 1942, a group of eight dedicated men took the first steps in organizing what would become the Fairmont-Hahntown Volunteer Fire Company No. 4. Initially, the company operated in conjunction with the Larimer Fire Department. This partnership continued until the Fairmont-Hahntown company received its own charter on July 15, 1944.
Early Equipment and Facilities
The company’s first fire truck was a 1929 Model A Ford, affectionately known as "Jigger." The initial fire station was a building owned by Pete Peretto. In 1944, the department expanded its capabilities with the purchase of a Cadillac fire truck.
Establishment and Growth
In 1953, a new fire station was constructed at the corner of Main and Rose Streets in Hahntown. Through the generosity of community contributions and the support of a dedicated ladies auxiliary, a new station was built in 1957 at the current location on Rose Street. Over the years, the station has seen numerous additions, including a banquet hall and social quarters, to better serve the community’s needs.
